Summer is in full swing. If you are not sure when to schedule your summertime oil change, now is the time to find out. A quick check in your owner’s manual will tell you the recommended time/mileage between oil changes. Maintaining the proper level of all your vehicle’s fluids during the hot summer months is a great step in prolonging the life and performance of your vehicle. Be sure to schedule your Auto Oil Change & Fluids Check-up at Castrol Express Oil Service for a quality vehicle health check-up that will keep you driving safe all summer.
Fresh oil will keep your engine running clean and efficient, even in extreme summertime weather conditions. Keeping current on your recommended oil changes can also help you save money on gas.
Studies show
that you get more MPG when you routinely have oil changes, as suggested by the manufacturer. The rule of thumb used to be every 3 months or 3,000 miles. But modern vehicles and better oils can go longer and farther between oil changes these days. Stick to what your owner’s manual suggests and if your Check Oil light comes on in your dash, get it serviced right away.
It is usually recommended to have your oil filter replaced when you have an oil change service. This helps ensure the filter is working at its best, removing any particulates that may cause harm to your engine.
Your vehicle has many fluids (besides oil) that play important roles in maintaining the integrity and performance you expect from your car. Topping off low fluids, and replacing burnt or used-up fluids, can help prevent catastrophic damages from occurring if left unaddressed.
The type of power steering fluid to use for your specific vehicle can be found in your owner’s manual. Not all power steering fluids are the same, so make sure you know which type to use, if you need to top off low levels. Occasionally, the power steering fluid needs to be flushed and completely new fluid added. Again, find out the suggested time and mileage marker from your owner’s manual when that service should be performed.
It is super important to check that your coolant levels are checked often, especially during the hot summer months. Generally, you should have your radiator flushed and new coolant added at least every two years. ‘Flushing the radiator’ is performed with a special cleaner that removes debris, corrosion and particulates from the inside of the radiator. Tap water should never be added to the coolant reservoir. If you are low on coolant, you may add distilled water, or a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and distilled water.
Windshield wiper fluid is a convenience that should not be overlooked. It helps keep your windshield free from dirt, dust, bugs, and water spots so that you can see more clearly.
